In this first sermon in a series on Ruth, we consider the reactions of Elimelech and his family to the famine that was in the land of Judah. Instead of recognizing that this was chastisement from the Lord for Israel’s sins and humbling themselves in repentance as they should have done, they went into Moab, the land of God’s enemies.

We also need to take care against backsliding and react rightly when God disciplines us. We must repent, and not make any kind of treaty with the world and sin - enemies of God. God is always gracious to receive those who will return to Him.
