Jesus reveals to His disciples that He’s not just another prophet, but that He is God in human flesh.

We consider two things:

  • First, Jesus’ authority over the creation shows that He is the Creator, and
  • Second, that His sovereignty extends not only over the creation, but also over the events that take place within His creation.

Many deny Jesus His deity, which is so clearly demonstrated in this passage. Then again, many acknowledge Jesus as God but do not fully realize what that means. His disciples, having doubted that Jesus cared for them at all, were brought face to face with the reality of His deity in our passage. We are challenged to learn from the disciples’ failure; not to fear the storms of life but trust Him and His promise to bring all His children safely to the other side.
