The people of God thought themselves to be devoted in their worship of God, and devout in their conduct, but they were blind to the transgressions of their ways. They were searching what they might do to please God, because divine judgment had overtaken them. Concerning God’s dealings with His people, Micah the prophet said to them, “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8
