The preaching of Peter and John at the Temple, and the healing of the man born lame, caused a significant number to believe the Gospel and in response, the Apostles are arrested and put on trial by the rulers of the Sanhedrin.
We reflect on the fact that true Gospel preaching will always evoke a response and sometimes that will be persecution. However, with God on our side, we need not fear man and can gladly leave our future in His hands.
Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, says many things that would not have been welcome to his audience - pointing out that it was they who had killed their Messiah and that the healing of the lame man was evidence that God had raised Him from the dead. Finally, they declare that there is and can be no salvation other than in Christ.
Once again, we consider these words in our current context. We have been entrusted with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it is the only means of salvation there is. We are urged to be more confident in this Gospel and more obedient to the command to preach it to all men.
