We see the last sign that Jesus points to to authenticate Himself as the Messiah - that the poor have the Gospel preached to them. We consider that Jesus’ message was preached to those who were brokenhearted and mourning over their sin, who realized that they were slaves to it and to Satan. To such people, Jesus proclaimed healing, comfort, liberty, and hope (through His life of perfect obedience and death upon the cross); and in doing so demonstrated that He is the Messiah. All are urged to accept Jesus’ testimony of Himself and come to Him as the only Savior from sin.
