Just how long is a marriage supposed to last? We examine the teaching of Jesus on this subject. We find that marriage is a covenant for this world alone: it is annulled by death and no longer exists in the life to come. Apart from this, though, it is clear that marriage is for life. The intention is that a man and woman should remain united until separated by death. God only gives two cases in which divorce is permissible. Jesus gives one in this passage - the case of immorality. The other is given by Paul in 1 Corinthians 7 and concerns the case where an unbeliever deserts a believing spouse.

We apologize for the poor quality of this recording, which was caused by technical difficulties.
