Paul defended the Gospel by going to Jerusalem and now uses this account to further validate to the Galatians the Gospel he was preaching. He went to Jerusalem because:

  • God told him in a revelation to go there
  • He was concerned that a division in the churches about the Gospel would undermine the work he was doing among the Gentiles
  • There were false teachers in the church undermining the Gospel and trying to lead believers back into bondage
  • He was not willing to compromise or have the gospel compromised in any way, so that those who heard it might be saved and God might be glorified.
