We have been considering some ways we can make the most of the time when we are alone and avoid the difficulties of those times. In the last message we considered the benefits of reading the Bible and this time we reflect on the blessing that good books can be to us. We answer three questions:

  • Why should we read good books?
  • How should we read to get the greatest benefit?
  • What is the proper use of books?

We are reminded that while good books can help us to understand the Bible better, we should always bring their contents to the touchstone of God’s Word to make sure their teaching accords with the Bible. We also see that they are not a replacement for attendance at public worship.
