We look at Paul’s injunction to the Christians at Rome that they should greet one another with a holy kiss. We examine what this was and what it meant, before we look at Paul’s own example in this area. We see that it is Christian love that should underly this warm and affectionate greeting of one another. In the body of Christ, there should be no room for grudges, divisions or hypocrisy. Rather, we are called upon to love one another even as Christ has loved us.
Finally, we see that we cannot have this kind of love unless we are true Christians and that the source of this love is the Holy Spirit who has been given to those who are truly the children of God, members of His household. Knowing this, we understand that we can grow in this love through the means of grace that God has given His children.
