Jesus was derided for being the “Friend of Sinners”, yet for His people, it is one of His most illustrious names. We see exactly what it means that Jesus is the Friend of Sinners, to whom He offers His friendship, and what it is like to have Jesus as our friend.

As believers, Jesus is our example in all things, not least in His seeking to save sinners. Would we be called friends of sinners too? Would we associate with sinners as Jesus did, and seek their salvation? We are challenged to examine ourselves in light of Jesus - the only true Friend of Sinners.

If you are not saved, Jesus says “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” He offers to be your friend today if you are a sinner. Reach out to Him and accept His gracious offer - He will receive you.
