If you know Jesus, your desire for the things above will give you the strength to pick up your cross and follow Him. Jesus set His heart on the reward that His Father promised Him, endured the cross to receive it, and because of the joy set before Him, didn’t mind the shame the cross brought Him. His journey to the fellowship took him through churches of various persuasions, during which time he became convinced of a call to the ministry and also of a Reformed view of the Scriptures.
