This morning we learn from James that the misuse of the tongue is a vile sin which must be put off, along with our other sins. We learn:

  • What it means to bridle our tongues - that we control what comes from them so that they are used only for that which is edifying;
  • What James tells us it means about us if we do not do so - that our religion is worthless;
  • How it is that we can bring our tongues under control - by seeking the grace of God in the help of His Holy Spirit.

We are reminded that even as believers we can stumble and use our tongues in a sinful way - but we should seek to put this sin to death and we are given pointers in this sermon to help us do so.
