On the basis of all that Paul has written in the first 11 chapters of this letter, he now pleads with us to make what is a very reasonable response. We see:

  • The sense of urgency we should have as believers
  • The basis of Paul’s appeal is God’s mercy and we should keep in view all that He has done for us
  • The appeal is that we should offer ourselves unreservedly to God - not just while we are at church but through our whole lives
  • This is a very reasonable thing for us to do in the light of all God has done for us

We remind ourselves that as believers we are God’s possession and that He has the right to do with us whatever is pleasing in His sight. However, we reflect on the fact that He will work all things together for our good and for His glory.
