Last week, we saw that there were those who responded to the message of John the Baptist by pressing with holy violence into the Kingdom.
Now, Jesus turns to consider those who did not respond in this way. We see that those who reject the Truth often do it on the basis of faults they find in the messenger. Yet Jesus points out that no matter who the messenger is, such people will reject the message - the problem is with their hearts, which are hardened and hate the Truth.
But despite this, there were those whose lives were transformed by the Truth and so bore testimony to its truthfulness - they vindicated the Truth as a result.
We are challenged to examine our own hearts - are we among those who reject the Truth and blame the messenger, or among those who are transformed by the message and so vindicate the Truth of God?
