We live in a time when church discipline is practiced by few and flouted by many. Yet in this passage, Christ gives us guidance on how we should proceed in dealing with such issues in the church. We see the wisdom that is contained in these words. We find a role for the whole fellowship in seeking the repentance of the erring brother or sister. Finally, we see how serious this issue is in God’s sight - and that those who reject the just and Biblical discipline of a local church here on earth will have to give account at the judgment of God.
