Peter doubtless thinks his motives are good when he proclaims that Christ would never be handed over to die. Christ indicates that all obstacles to Him obeying the Father’s will come from the Adversary (Satan). Then Christ goes on to challenge His disciples concerning whose interests they were putting first in their lives. It was a theme that they had heard before from Him.
We are challenged to examine our own hearts and lives to see where our interests lie. Are we self-interested, living for our own pleasure and amusement only, or have we taken up our cross, denying ourselves to follow Jesus? How should we respond to the words of Jesus?
