At a time when many men had there own theories about who Christ was, but none seemed to have believed the truth about Him, Jesus asks His disciples for their opinion and Peter makes his glorious confession. We see that to really know and love the Christ of Scripture requires a work of the Father in our hearts.

Next we turn to the statement of Christ concerning His church that has become so controversial. We examine the various explanations for this phrase and see the strengths and weaknesses of each. We put forward the view that the only true foundation for the Church is Christ Himself, and that this is the large rock of which He spoke. Based upon this teaching, we consider the qualifications of a true church.

Finally, we look at what is meant by the keys of the kingdom, to whom they were given and how they should be wielded. We are encouraged to pray for the elders of the church as they exercise this responsibility.
