In a day where the prevailing philosophy is of instant gratification, we see that this is not the way that the Lord normally works to transform His children into the likeness of Christ. Rather, though there are notable exceptions during times of revival, this is usually a slow and lifelong process performed by His Holy Spirit through the means God has provided.

It goes without saying that the process is only possible for those who have come to a saving knowledge of God through Christ, but then the believer’s sanctification is likely to be a slow process. Finally, we see that this can be further slowed down or even reversed it if we do not keep our eyes fixed on Christ.
