We turn in the Shorter Catechism to an examination of exactly what it is that God requires of man. Here, we look at the matter of obedience to His revealed will and we meditate again on what a precious privilege God has given us in His Law. We consider that many churches today see the Law of God as a bad thing and teach that we should desire to be free of it. Yet rightly understood, we see that the Law is a beautiful thing and it should be our greatest delight to meditate on it and to seek to obey it out of love to our God. He has not set us free from our Law-breaking in order that we might break the Law but rather that we might be enabled truly to keep it and to be blessed in doing so.
