Paul has finished with arguments drawn from his own calling and experience that validate the Gospel he preached to the Galatians as being the true Gospel. Now he moves on to other arguments and here we see him appealing to the experience that the Galatians had, as well as to the example of Abraham himself and God’s promise through Abraham, to verify that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone and not by the works of the Law. In all we see:

  • The Galatians’ own testimony shows they were saved by faith and not works
  • Abraham was saved in exactly this way himself, and not on the basis of any works
  • God promised Abraham that the Gentiles would be saved in the same way that he had been.

We reflect on the fact that there are still false gospellers in the world, seeking to lead believers astray in much the same way that the Judaizers were troubling the Galatians. We need to be on our guard against them just as much now as the early church in its day.
