What did two revered Old Testament characters, Abraham and David, discover about God’s way of salvation? Was it by works, earned by them on the basis of their obedience and their good deeds? Not all all. We are shown that Abraham received his righteousness as a gift of God’s grace and through faith - his righteousness was credited to him in his believing on God. David, too, speaks of the blessedness of the man whose sins the Lord will not count against him, having covered them.
We marvel again at the grace of our God, who reckons His people to be righteous on account of the righteousness of Christ and who freely gives them this righteousness through faith alone.
We are urged to examine our hearts and to make sure we have this righteousness, as it is the only way God has provided by which we must be saved.
