Isaac, the child of promise, is born miraculously to parents who were too old to have children. We see in the birth of Isaac a picture of the birth of Jesus - also a miraculous conception.
Later, Isaac is persecuted by Ishmael and in this we also see Christ, rejected by the religious leaders of His day.
Finally, we see God placing fear upon Abimelech and causing him to enter into covenant with Abraham - with the result being the protection of God’s people from harm.
We are encouraged to see God keeping His promise, even to those whose faith occasionally wavered, and bringing great blessing into the lives of those He had chosen to be His own.
