We begin to look at what Jesus did to purchase salvation for us. We consider that:

  • everything Jesus did throughout the whole time He lived on this earth was to satisfy God’s justice and to merit our salvation
  • everything Jesus did throughout the whole of His time on earth was simultaneously satisfying and meritorious

We are reminded that Jesus gave His whole life for us, and challenged that we should give no less to Him. Jesus tells us that: “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matt. 16:24-25). Have we paid this price? We must, if we would be saved.
