We reflect on another argument given by Jonathan Edwards to show the importance of good works: it is on the basis of our works that the final judgment will be conducted and our eternal destinies determined. Since this is the case, clearly our works are essential evidence of the condition of our souls before God. We consider two things:

  • First, that the Lord will put us on trial on that day to show both us and the world the righteousness of His judgment.
  • And second, that the evidence He will examine will be our works.

We are challenged to examine ourselves by the works we perform - especially in times of testing - to see if we are truly God’s children. When we are tempted, do we choose God or the world?
