On this Easter Sunday morning, we look at the subject of the Resurrection to see how important it really is for the Christian faith. We see:

  • The resurrection is crucial but we need to see it in the context of everything Christ did for His people
  • Everything that Christ did while He was on earth, He did for His people and in their place - His life, death, burial and resurrection
  • In the resurrection, Christ overcame death for His people.  He died the death they deserved, endured the justice of God that should have been theirs, suffering their hell
  • That therefore, if Christ has not risen, death has not been vanquished and there can be no salvation

Finally, we see that Christ did not die and rise again for everyone, for then all would be Christians and all would be saved. Rather, He died for His own people - for all who would believe on Him, forsaking their sins and trusting in Him alone and in His life, death, burial and resurrection as the only ground for their salvation. All are encouraged to come to this Christ, who stands ready even now to receive all who will come to Him in this way.
