In the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus tells us now how large and powerful His kingdom will become: It will begin very small - like a mustard seed, but it will grow very large - eventually filling the earth and becoming the greatest of all kingdoms.

We consider two things:

  • First, the fact that the kingdom of heaven begins small but becomes very large, and
  • Second, that its influence likewise begins small but eventually becomes very great.

We are challenged to do our best to advance His kingdom through sharing the Gospel. There will be those who reject the Gospel, even those who seem to follow for a time and then fall away; but the kingdom will advance - the elect will be saved, and the rest will be subdued.
