We pause from our series in Matthew to remind ourselves again of the wonder of the Christmas story. We see how the prophecy of the virgin birth applied at the time of King Ahaz but then we look to its ultimate fulfillment in the coming of Christ.

We examine the following questions:

  • Why did Christ have to be born of a virgin?
  • What is the significance of the name the child was given in this and other prophecies?
  • Who was this child?
  • Why did the child have to be God? Why did he have to be man as well?

Finally, believers are encouraged to rejoice in this gracious provision of our God. Unbelievers, though, are urged to accept the salvation that Christ came to accomplish and to escape the Day of God’s wrath which will surely fall upon the unrepentant.
