The Lord had delivered His people from the famine by raising Joseph to power in Egypt. But a king arose who did not know Joseph and began to afflict the Israelites because he was afraid of them. Since God had promised His people an inheritance, were His plans frustrated by Pharaoh? Not at all! We see:

  • The Lord preserved the visible nation that was in covenant with Him
  • Most importantly, the Lord preserved the invisible church, those of the true religion, that were among His people

We derive lessons from this activity of God and apply them to our current situation.
