In this message, we are exhorted to press forward in our Christian lives, understanding that those who are not making actual progress are in fact falling back. Therefore, we are not just to sit back and do nothing, like passengers on a train or spectators at a sporting event, as though that’s all there is to the Christian life. Rather, considering the example of Christ and His love for us, we should be motivated to run the race of Christian life with all our heart and strength, so that we may live with Him forever in heaven.

This evening, we consider that Christ calls us to run a race towards heaven. We look at four things:

  • First, the exhortation to run the race.
  • Second, what we must do to run this race.
  • Third, the motivations He has given to help us run this race.
  • Finally, the effort we are to put into this race.
And so run the race set before you. Shake off the things that slow you down, let go of the things that tie you up, consider Jesus’ example and the example of the all the saints. Run the race with endurance and don’t stop, don’t ease up, until you cross the finish line at the end of your life.
