As Paul and Barnabas complete their first missionary journey, we consider:

  • The stoning of Paul
  • That Paul perseveres in the work despite this event
  • That through the boldness and courage the Lord gave Paul and Barnabas, the first missionary journey is brought to a successful conclusion

In all of these events and the tribulations that Paul and Barnabas went through, we see them as examples of the principle that it is better to live well than to live long. Having already died to themselves in the Lord Jesus Christ, Paul and Barnabas now have a courage that enables them to press on and live for Him, putting their lives on the line time and time again as they do the work He called them to. We are urged to reflect on whether we have that same spirit within ourselves and to seek God for it if this is not the case.
