The wickedness in the world grows to a point where God acts in judgment to cleanse His creation. We take an overview of this account and see that it contains clear and powerful pictures of God’s redemptive plan. We review these pictures, seeing the flood as a picture of Christ, the seed of the woman, striking down the seed of the serpent just when it seemed that the situation for the godly line was hopeless; seeing the waters of the flood as an emblem of the cleansing blood of Christ which can cover mountains of sin; and seeing the ark itself as a picture of Christ, safely bringing the children of God through the judgment and into the new world that appeared as the waters subsided. Finally, we see that God Himself shut Noah and his family in the ark and that for those outside it was then too late to be saved. In the same way, now is the day of God’s grace and the day to come into Christ for salvation. However, when God’s judgment falls it will be too late. All are urged to come to Christ now while there is yet time.
