Continuing in our series in the Shorter Catechism, we come to the statement that man is made in the image of God. To understand what this means, we trace the fourfold condition of man: before the fall; after the fall but unregenerate; after the fall and regenerated in Christ; and finally in heaven. In each condition, we review in what sense man was, or is, in the image of God. We see what was lost in the fall, what was regained in salvation and what will be fully restored to the believer in heaven.
We are urged to seek after the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, since it is His work to renew the image of God in us by making us more like Christ.
