Resuming our series in Matthew, we look at the incident where Peter assures the collectors of the two-drachma tax that Jesus does pay it. We see how Jesus shows that He is the Son of God and therefore exempt from paying this tax. Yet, to avoid giving offence, He pays. We apply the principle that although we may have certain rights, it is better to sacrifice them if this will lead to peace and keep others from taking offence. We also see that whatever God calls us to do, He has promised to provide us with the means to do it.
