The author to the Hebrews begins to apply the message and the example that he has brought to us throughout chapter 11 but also in the whole of the book. Here, we are encouraged to press on towards Christ, our Great High Priest. The writer uses the picture of a race and we examine the following aspects:

  • who or what is it that we as believers in the Lord are racing against?
  • why is it important that we should run this race to the end?
  • what are the things that threaten to hinder us as we run this race?
  • what help are we given in this passage to help us to run this race with endurance?

We are challenged to lay aside everything that gets in the way and to run the race with all our hearts, so that we may win the prize for which God has called us in Christ Jesus.
