We ask if Joseph’s life, in which he was so much prospered by the Lord in this world, is normative for the believer. We find passages in Scripture such as Psalm 73 that indicate this is not the case.

We marvel again at God’s purposes to save Israel through Joseph - that first Joseph was sold into Egypt and into the household of Potiphar. Potiphar had the privilege of being able to cast men into the same jail used by the king and hence Joseph ultimately came into contact with Pharaoh. On the way, Joseph went through some difficult experiences but he remained faithful to the Lord and God was with him in every situation he faced. We are reminded that everything that happens in the whole of creation is ordered by God for the good of His Church and for the glory of His name.
