In this first sermon in a series on the letter to the Hebrews, we begin to consider the superiority of Christ to the shadows of the Old Covenant. The author warns the Hebrews not to backslide and return to the ceremonial customs because Christ is the reality to which all of those things pointed. He is God’s highest and greatest revelation of Himself.
Since God has now spoken to us through His Son, all are exhorted to listen to His Word, turn from their sins and embrace Him in faith. The believer is also urged not stand still in the faith, but to press forward continually to greater Christ-likeness.
