The author to the Hebrews warns us against hardening our hearts the way God’s covenant people did when they were in the wilderness and refused to believe that He could bring them into the land of Canaan, a picture of the heavenly rest. Despite seeing many great miracles, these people remained unconverted and were excluded from entering into God’s rest.
We are warned that Christ alone can bring us into that true rest. Therefore, we must examine our hearts to make sure that we are trusting in Him, because if not, we too will be excluded from His rest. We are responsible for the state of our own hearts. We must also exhort one another, since this will help us to persevere. Finally, we must persevere and hold fast to Christ until the end.
