The outlook is very bleak for the Israelites - exile and captivity await them. However, against this dark background, the mercy and grace of God shines the more brightly, as a Messiah is promised, One who will be a light not only to the Jews but also to the Gentiles.

We learn that the Christ will be a man, a prophet, selected for a purpose, protected from the Devil, a servant, sent to the Nation of Israel yet rejected by them, the fulfillment of God’s plan, the Restorer of the Kingdom and highly exalted.

Our first response should be to rejoice but then to labor in spreading the Gospel so that the remainder of His sheep may also be brought in.
