We see Abram asking God how he could know that he would possess the land. God gives Abram a gracious assurance, entering into a covenant with him when the very nature of God should have been enough. In that covenant, we see Christ again prefigured.

We are encouraged by this episode to understand that our God is loving and gracious and that even when we undergo hard things in our lives, the promises that God has entered into with us cannot fail and He will work them for our good if we are His children.
