The Lord Jesus continues His instructions to His disciples ahead of their being sent out by Him to preach the Gospel. We look at two of His injunctions to them: to perform miracles in His name and to depend on others for their support. We see:

  • All the miracles done testified to the fact that the message was from God.
  • They were also acts of kindness - God often comes to people in demonstration of His kindness and then, if that is rejected, He visits in judgment.
  • The message was to be given without charge or cost of any kind. Likewise, the Gospel today is to be offered as God’s free gift to fallen man.
  • It is a principle of Scripture that those who minister the Gospel should earn their living from the Gospel. In the providence of God, both the minister and those who give are blessed in this arrangement.

In closing, the lost are once again encouraged to examine their hearts, to see their need of Christ and to come to Him in repentance and faith so they might be saved.
