Paul gives us a very helpful argument to help us in our continuing struggles as we put off the deeds of the flesh and seek to possess the fruit of the Spirit in increasing measure - that our old man died with Christ on the cross and we were raised to new life together with Him when He rose from the dead. We see:

  • We died with Christ in His death on the cross.
  • We rose with Christ in His resurrection.
  • Since we have risen through the power of the Holy Spirit, we should seek to walk by the Spirit and have His influence in our lives grow stronger.

We are encouraged to consider ourselves dead to sin and to make no provision for the flesh, to obey its lusts and desires.
