We consider the decision that Ruth and Orpah are faced with after their husbands die: to go with Naomi to the promised land and to serve the true God, or to go back to Moab and the detestable gods of that land. That moment of decision comes for everyone who hears the Gospel. There is a cost to following Christ, as Ruth and Orpah discover. It may mean hardship in this world, but that does not even begin to compare with the reward of following Him.
Will you be like Orpah who turned back to destruction and is never heard of again, or like Ruth who committed herself to God and was blessed to become an ancestress of Christ Himself?
