The Jewish brethren thought that Peter was wrong to preach to the Gentiles and upon his return to Jerusalem they confronted him for so doing. Peter therefore defends his actions, explaining first his vision in Joppa, the arrival of Cornelius’ messengers, and the pouring out of the Spirit upon Cornelius’ household. Having heard the evidence, the Brethren and Apostles rejoiced instead, seeing how God had granted repentance to the Gentiles. We should also examine ourselves to make sure we have this same repentance within us, and not be proud enough to think that we are responsible for our salvation.
