We examine this wonderful Gospel call from our Lord Jesus Christ. We have already seen that God gave Him a people as His reward for accomplishing God’s purposes in salvation. Here we see that God also gives Him the authority to reveal God to His own.
We contemplate the love relationship that exists between the members of the Godhead and wonder that it is into this kind of relationship that we are called as true believers.
We see how, in a true believer, conscience functions to drive us away from ourselves to Christ. We see our sin for what it is and it becomes a yoke and a burden to us. Often we will get diverted to a point where we are trying to save ourselves by good deeds but if we are truly His, we will ultimately come to the cross to lose our burden of sin.
How can we know if we are among God’s people or not? If we are, we will delight to obey His commandments and this obedience will be evidence that we are changed and a sign that we truly love God. If we are not, then it will always be a burden to us to obey God.
Finally, all are summoned to Christ for salvation - to lose the burden of sin and replace it with the easy yoke and the light burden that He offers.
