Immediately following Jesus’ baptism, the Spirit compelled Him to go into the wilderness, where He fasted for forty days and was tempted by the enemy. There He overcame our enemy, that we might overcome him as well. We look at two things regarding the spiritual warfare that took place between Jesus and Satan:

  • First, that Jesus, the second Adam, succeeded in defeating Satan where the first Adam failed, and
  • Second, how Jesus overcome Satan.

Jesus’ victory was secured by His knowledge of the Word of God and by the presence of God’s Spirit with Him. Our victory will lie in the same means too, so we are encouraged to seek God in His Word and in the other means of grace He has supplied.
