We continue to consider the Jerusalem Council and the communication of its conclusions to the church in Antioch.

In particular, we examine:

  • The diligence of the ministers to bring God’s Truth to His people, so that they might be built up by it. They submitted to the decision of the church that they should be the ones to journey to Antioch and minister the Truth to them.
  • The eagerness on the part of the congregation to receive that Truth and to be built up by it. They were encouraged by what was taught them in the letter and by Judas and Silas because it was indeed the Truth of God.

We apply the principles underlying these events to our own circumstances today - and are challenged to receive God’s Word - even if it may not seem so encouraging to us at the time. We need to understand that the Word of God is necessary to our spiritual growth and health - both its reading and its preaching.
