We consider from this passage one area in which the Spirit’s fruit of love in our lives is to operate in the church: we are to help our fellow Christians if they fall into sin of various kinds. We learn that:

  • Those who are spiritual in the body must seek to restore the fallen brother but always in a spirit of gentleness. We examine what this means in practice.
  • We are not to condemn the members of our church family and make their load greater through a Pharisaical spirit but rather to get alongside them and help them with their burden. This is the example our elder brother by adoption, Jesus Christ, gave to us.

We are encouraged to grow in grace and to minister our gifts within the body, caring for one another and demonstrating that love which is the true fruit of the Holy Spirit among us.
