The Lord chastens those whom He loves. When David wrote Psalm 6 he was being chastened by the Lord, and expresses much that is profitable to us in our times of chastening. The Lord treats His children externally much the same as He treats sinners, but there is an important difference. The world receives His anger and wrath, but His children are disciplined. The world is driven deeper into sin by the Lord’s punishment, but His children are drawn near to Him as their loving Father. We, like David, should repent when we are under God’s chastisement and reap the peaceful benefit of God’s pleasure.
