God created us, and has the right to tell us right from wrong. His Law is perfect and does not change, and we are called to obey it, though we are no longer judged by it. It is the sin in us which makes us want to break the Law or change its standards to suit us, but this is wrong. We cannot judge God’s Law. James supplies us with an example of breaking God’s Law which also serves as another example of the misuse of the tongue: speaking against each other. There are many ways this can be done that are harmful. The only correct way is to correct one another in love. James proceeds to warn us of the main issue: why it is that we would break the law.
